Volumetric expansion of gutta percha in contact with eugenol-an in vitro study

The study was undertaken to compare the volumetric expansion of gutta percha in the presence of Eugenol and physiologic saline over a period of time. Sections of gutta percha cones were pre scanned to determine their total volume & surface area. They were then placed in test tube with either 2 μl Eugenol or 2 μl saline. The pre-scanned specimens were then soaked for 24hrs,7days & 30days in either of the solutions. The gutta percha were scanned to determine the volumetric changes in the material after placement under the test solutions and statistically analyzed.
