A rare case of intraoral venous malformation in vestibular region

Venous malformations are slow-flow vascular anomalies composed of aberrant venous channels. These are light-to-dark-blue, usually painless lesions exhibiting blanching on compression. They are often present at birth and grow proportionately with the individual. Rapid growth may occur during puberty, pregnancy, or traumatic injury. These can occur anywhere in body but intraoral lesions are less commonly seen. Here a case of venous malformation occurring in an unusual location (mandibular anterior vestibular region) has been described. Diagnosis can be made on the basis of clinical appearance but Doppler ultrasound is essential in differentiating venous malformations from other vascular anomalies and helps in identifying the feeding vessels. Several treatment modalities are availableand utilization depends on the site, size and extent of the lesion. However, sclerotherapy is most commonly used.
