Temporomandibular joint Disorder (TMDs) symptoms are extreme pain at TMJ, headaches, ear aches, chewing difficulties, clicking sounds jaw pain and locking of jaw on mouth opening in long standing cases. Etiology of TMDs can be of multiple factors : malocclusions, bruxism, poor posture, stress/anxiety, multiple/single masticatory muscle spasm, arthritis and so on. Initial treatment approaches to TMD are resting of jaws, relaxation of muscle, jaw training, soft dietary regimen, reduced talking, warm compressions, NSAIDS2. Then comes the less invasive ones like arthrocentesis and prolotherapy.Advanced stages of TMDs is managed by surgical procedures. Arthrocentesis and prolotherapy individually has its own advantages. The merging of both treatment options was done for added benefit by longer relief from TMJ pain and shorter clinical time.
