Epidermoid cysts are benign lesions, slow-growing, subcutaneous lesions commonly referred to as sebaceous cysts, though they do not arise from sebaceous glands. They are characterized by cystic spaces lined by simple squamous epithelium (epidermoid cyst), containing skin adnexa (“true” dermoid cyst) or tissues of all three germ layers (teratoid cyst). This case report discusses a 32year old male patient who presented with gradually enlarging, painless swelling in his left submandibular region. Clinical examination and imaging revealed a well-defined, lobular soft tissue solid mass with epidermal inclusion cyst. The lesion was excised through a surgical procedure and histopathological analysis confirmed the diagnosis has epidermoid cyst. Postoperative recovery was uneventful. This case highlights the importance of considering epidermoid cysts in differential diagnosis of submandibular swellings and emphasizes the effectiveness of surgical excision as treatment of choice.
