Abstract

Orthopaedic surgeons have been successfully using the electromagnetic field for treatment of long bone fractures in humans. In dentistry, magnets were first used as implants for denture retention by Behran and Egan in 1953. Wherever there is an electric current flowing, there is always a magnetic field. In principle, the magnetic field can either be static or time varying. Even though the magnets in various modalities give apromissory result. Research studies are required to evaluate long term stability especially in openbite and class III cases. The static magnetic fields control mobility by acclerating the osteogenic rate and control pain by blocking sensory neuron action potential these properties of static magnetic field promise a pain free and mobility free orthodontic management.
