A clinical evaluation of treatment modalities for patient with renal disease for the dental practioner

Renal failure is a major health care problem in the developing world. During the progression of renal damage, 90% of all affected patients experience oral symptoms. Surgery in patients with serious liver disease may cause complications like haemmorhage, infection, renal failure, & encephalopathy. It seems reasonable to delay elective surgery in these patients at least until the acute episode has resolved. A conservative approach would be to avoid surgery in patients with severe hepatic dysfunction. Lab investigations should be done to determine the status of the renal disease. The present study reviews the characteristics of the disease, the existing therapeutic options, and the considerations of relevance for the dental practioner.
