Abstract

Mucoepidermoid carcinoma is the most common primary malignancy of the salivary glands. Central mucoepidermoid carcinomas are extremely rare in the jaws. Here we present a case of a 17-year-old female with complaint of pain and swelling in the left upper back region of jaw of 5 months duration. Radiographic examination (OPG) showed radiolucency associated distal to 27 and an impacted 28. Cytology report showed uniform round to ovoid cells and many large cells with vacuolated cytoplasm and a few squamous cells. This case report adds a new dimension to the clinical and radiographic picture a central mucoepidermoid carcinoma can reveal.
