Orthodontics, perceived as the branch that deals with the treatment of malocclusion, usually in the young. Adults were not generally assumed to be candidates for such treatment. They would largely constitute patients with restorative or periodontal concern. However, an increasing number of these patients require an orthodontic treatment prior to the restorative therapy, making orthodontics mandatory, not only for the maintenance of the stable functional occlusion but also for the stability and viability of the restoration. This has become clearly evident by the rising number of adult patients seen today at the orthodontic offices, as compared to the yester years. Adults of today are more aware of the benefits that they can achieve once they get subjected to braces for the stipulated time span. As we move into the era of the more aesthetically conscious population, the considerations for these patients also needs to be reviewed as a whole.
