Melanin is rarely found in odontogenic tumors and cysts; but since the neural crest interacts in the development of teeth, it is not surprising that Melanocytes can occur in truly odontogenic tissue.
Odontogenic lesions revealing the presence of melanin could be in dentigerous cyst, Admantinoma, Melanotic progonoma, Calcifying odontogenic cyst, Melanotic Ameloblastic odontoma, Melanotic Ameloblastic fibro-odontoma and so on.
Thus in this poster we have tried to highlight such pigmented odontogenic lesions and stress has been laid on the fact that further investigation should be carried out to understand the specific origin and pathologic significance of Melanocytes in odontogenic lesions.
