The most commonly found angle's malocclusion in orthodontic patients of local Gujarati population-A hospital based study

Abstract

The study aimed to provide oral health planners/Orthodontists in Gujarat with information on the most common Angle's malocclusion found in the local gujarati population in an attempt to procure a baseline data for better orthodontic services and also for teaching and further research. A total of 500 study models were randomly selected from the records of the dept. of orthodontics at K.M.Shah Dental college taking care of the ethnicity of the patient and were examined for malocclusion as per Angle's classification. In all, 47.6% showed Cl-II Div-1, 40.2% showed Cl-I, 8.2% showed Cl-II Div-2 whereas only 4% showed Cl-III malocclusion. In the subdivision category, 26.9% showed left sided whereas 73.1% showed right sided subdivision in Cl-II Div-1 malocclusion. Males showed higher percentage of Cl-III in the ratio of 4:1 as compared to females.
