Many dental practitioners are faced with patients presenting gag reflex, a phenomenon that appears quite commonly during prosthetic or dental treatment. The most serious problem associated with an overactive gag reflex is the strong potential for compromised treatment. Providing dental treatment for this challenging group can be stressful experience for both patients and clinicians. The aim of this article is provide with a brief glimpse on the factors associated with the etiology of gagging and the management of patients with exaggerated gag reflex.
