Abstract

Dentin hypersensitivity has become a common problem that requires restorative intervention. Commercially, home and office desensitizers are available for the same. This clinical study evaluated the effectiveness of two commercially available desensitizing agents on cervical dentin hypersensitivity over a period of 6-month. A total of 90 teeth from 30 patients were selected for this study on a split-mouth basis and placebo was used as a control. Visual Analog scale was used for assessment with both tactile and air stimuli. The level of sensitivity was measured at the initial visit, 1-, 2-, and 4-week, and 2-, 3-, and at 6-month recalls. The result was tabulated and was statistically analyzed. It was found that both the agents were effective in the reduction of cervical dentin hypersensitivity but the remineralizing agent was found to be more effective on long-term basis.
