Abstract

Malignant melanoma is one of the deadliest malignancies that arises from the uncontrolled growth of melanocytes, which are pigmented cells found in the basal layer of the epidermis and mucous membranes.Primary melanoma of the oral cavity is a rare malignancy accounting for approximately less than 1% of all oral malignancies. The clinical presentation of oral melanoma is extremely variable as well as the absence of pain and the lack of the typical induration commonly found with oral malignancies; often result in a considerable delay before the final diagnosis of oral melanoma is established.1 This makes the prognosis extremely poor. This paper presents a very rare case of primary oral malignant melanoma.
