Osseous resection with periodontal surgery for the treatment of exostosis - A case report

Abstract

Manifestation of periodontal disease and its progression is always governed by presence of various etiological factors. Principal factor associated with progression of periodontal disease like presence of plaque has been well proven. Also its true that presence of local anatomical factors also governs further progression of disease and difficulty in maintainace of periodontal health. Among various anatomical factors exostosis is often one of the clinical finding which may complicate periodontal health. Presence of periodontal pocket complicates oral hygiene in such areas with exostosis. Periodontal therapy without treatment of exostosis often present with recurrence of the disease with bone loss of attachment apparatus.

In present case periodontal surgical therapy with osseous recontouring of the exostosis is performed to get utmost outcome of the periodontal therapy and good periodontal health which can be maintained by the individual.

In present case, non-surgical periodontal therapy is performed, followed by advice of vigorous oral hygiene care is been advised to the participant. On follow up, participant underwent periodontal surgical therapy with osseous recontouring for exostosis on buccal mucosa of upper posterior teeth.

Proper intervention and surgical management of the periodontal disease with management of local anatomical factor results into periodontal heatlh.
