Plasma cell gingivitis is a rare benign condition of the gingiva characterized by sharply demarcated erythematous and edematous gingiva often extending up to the muco gingival junction. Though the exact etiology is not known, allergic reaction seems to be a plausible explanation. The histopathological appearance consists of a dense infiltration of normal plasma cells separated by a collagenous stroma. We discuss here a case of plasma cell gingivitis which has been diagnosed based on the presence of plasma cells in histological section and was treated with open curettage.
