Abstract

For centuries the features of the hand have fascinated scholars, sages, theologian, doctors & laymen alike. The modern study of the hand is far removed from the popular image of the soothsaying hand reader uttering mysterious incantations in an esoteric language. Rather, through decades of scientific research, Dermatoglyphics is ‘unique, universal, inimitable & classifiable’ trait of dermal palmer and plantar ridges, which is highly useful in biological studies. Their notably variable characteristics are not duplicated in other people, even in monozygotic twins or even in the same person, from one extremity to another. Thus, dermatoglyphics may be in a position to become the primary means of assessing complex genetic traits, and also useful for theevaluation ofpsychological, medical & genetic conditions as it helps us to know if the person is susceptible to a particular disease. Present study has emphasized that dermatoglyphics could be applied as a diagnostic tool to patients with Pre malignant lesions.
