Probiotics, an emerging field of research in oral microbiology and oral medicine but still in infancy. These dietary supplements are focused on stimulating health promoting flora thus, suppressing the pathologic colonization and disease spread. They have found their use for prevention or treatment of gastrointestinal infections and diseases. However, past few decades has seen role of probiotics from the oral health care. The aim of this review is to examine potential mechanisms of probiotic bacteria in the oral cavity and effects on oral health.
