Thermoplastics: An Unexpendable biomaterial in Orthodontics-A systematic review

Abstract

Thermoplastic materials are indicated for fabrication of various appliances such as retainers, night guards, temporomandibular joint splints, bleaching trays, minor tooth movements. These appliances are transparent, visually more appealing, comfortable, disposable and above all maintenance of good oral hygiene is possible. In order to expand the clinical indications of thermoplastic appliances, it is important to understand the mechanical properties such as hardness and elastic modulus of the materials and the method of their fabrication.
