Abstract

India has made rapid strides in the health sector since Independence. But still there is an inequitable access to oral health services that contributes to the health infraction of the population and further exasperates the socio-economic status.

The study was done to analyze the current update on allocation of oral health in union budget of India.

In the present study secondary data regarding health and oral health allocation (year wise) in the National Union Budget of India since 1947 was collected and analyzed.

It was found that in India the health allocation was introduced in the budget in 1954 and since then it has meagrely increased from 0.8% (1954) to 1.97% (2016). Also there has been no mention about oral health related activities and no specific separate oral health allocation too.

The study outlines the deficit in our union budget related to amount allocated towards oral health services which highlights the importance of implementation of oral health policy in eliminating the oral health disparities.
