Abstract

The aim of the present investigation is to find out the nature of substrate in association with the effect of Boric acid, CaCO3, MgSO4, and KNO3 on the in vitro pollen germination of Sesbania grandiflora and Cassia siamea which are abundantly grown in the plain land of Tripura. The percentage of maximum germination (72%) as well as maximum development of the pollen tube have been observed in combination with 1% sucrose solution and 500ppm of boric acid in Sesbania grandiflora; whereas it is 76% in 10% sucrose and 500ppm boric acid in case of Cassia siamea. Sesbania grandiflora shows 62% and 47% germination and 280 μm as well as 180 μm pollen tube development in 300ppm CaCO3 and 100 ppm MgSO4 respectively. In case of Cassia siamea the responses of germination is 65% in CaCO3 and other salts show medium to low percentage of germination.
