Abstract

The pollen morphology of nine species of Biophytum was analysed using Light Microscope and Scanning Electron Microscope. The pollen grains are 3-zonocolpate in all the species except in B. reinwardtii (3-zonocolporoidate) and the exine ornamentation forms are reticulate, foveolate and foveolo-reticulate. The palynological data obtained is used for the infrageneric classification and a pollen key is prepared on the basis of aperture characters and exine ornamentation.
