Investigations were carried out on the pollen production of six medicinally important species of Solanum - S. aculeatissimum Jacq., S. indicum Linn., S. torvum Swartz., S. melongena var. insanum Prain., S. nigrum Linn. and S. trilobatum Linn. Significant variation could be observed among the different species in the production of pollen. It is envisaged that species with high pollen production could be favourable for pollen screening of populations and for active constituents for use as an index of ecospecificity.
