Abstract

This study was conducted in the Sri Ganganagar region of Rajasthan, selected for its highest rice productivity (3173 kg/ha) and production (1,12,650 tonnes) in the state during 2023–2024. From this region, Sri Ganganagar district was purposively chosen as it ranks second in rice cultivation. Three tehsils (Sri Ganganagar, Suratgarh, and Padampur) and twelve villages were selected through a multistage sampling process. The study comprised 200 respondents, equally divided into 100 beneficiary farmers (trained under the Rice Demonstration Work Plan Scheme) and 100 non-beneficiary farmers, matched for characteristics like age, education, and land holding.

A structured interview schedule was developed as the primary data collection tool, validated through expert consultation and pre-testing, demonstrating high reliability (split-half coefficient: 0.76). Data were collected through personal interviews to identify constraints in adopting improved rice cultivation practices. The constraint analysis involved 19 predefined barriers, assessed using a dichotomous response scale (Yes/No).

The research provides a systematic examination of the socio-personal and agricultural profiles of rice growers and the specific challenges they face in technology adoption. The findings offer critical insights for developing targeted extension strategies and policy interventions to enhance rice productivity in this high-potential region of Rajasthan.
