Abstract

A field experiment was conducted to study the performance of different crops as intercrops in coconut garden and to find out the best crop combination suitable for coconut garden conditions of Kerala. From the study it was found that nendran banana, elephant foot yam, ginger, turmeric, cassava and vegetable cowpea can be grown as suitable intercrops in coconut garden in different combination. All these crops produced significantly on par yields with their sole crops in coconut garden. Also from the study it was revealed that by adjusting the plant population of intercrops remuneration from the coconut garden can be increased sufficiently.
