Nirbheek Backyard Poultry Rearing – A Tool to Fight Poverty in Rural Area of Bhilwara District in Rajasthan

Abstract

The present investigation was conducted on backyard poultry production system in rural area of Bhilwara district in Rajasthan. Four villages were selected from the identified tehsils on the basis of maximum number of beneficiaries under RMoL. Ten farmers from each village were selected randomly. Five of them having improved Nirbheek breed (beneficiaries) under RMoL and rest of five having desi bird (non-beneficiaries) were selected thus a making a sample of 40 respondents. The average egg production per bird per year was 142 in improved Nirbheek bird and 56 in desi birds. Average age at first egg 5.6 months I improved bird and 6.3 months in local birds. Hence it is conducted that the performance of beneficiaries respondents (under RMoL i.e. improved breed) was better than non beneficiaries respondents (under non RMoL i.e. desi bird).
