Abstract

The study focusses on communication sources used by farm technology researchers, extension personnel and farmers for wheat and cotton technologies in Haryana. The findings revealed that researchers made maximum use of modes like self observation, research journals, research seminars/workshops and superior officers for generation of farm technology and sources used were local research institute/state agricultural university at its most. Transfer of technologies to extension personnel and farmers was done through the methods/media which were either obligatory or fulfilled their duties/assignments such as publication of popular articles, research reports, on campus trainings and demonstrations etc. Extension personnel's main source of information was state department of agriculture and modes were staff meetings, trainings, senior extension personnel, extension publications, departmental circulars and SMSs of department of agriculture. Extension personnel made maximum use of personal contact methods like farm and home visits followed by group contact methods viz. group meetings, demonstrations and crop competitions while least used mass contact methods/media such as television, radio, films, publications and exhibitions for transfer of technologies to farmers. Farmers have acquired most of the information through modes like progressive farmers, friends, neighbors, relatives, fellow famers and sources such as seed/fertilizers store, market and commercial agencies of pesticides.
