Abstract

The potassium status of Inceptisol of Baloda block at Janjgir district of Chhattisgarh State was evaluated for the pH, EC, organic C, available and water soluble K, exchangeable and non exchangeable, values in the soils. Surface soil samples collected from from 87 villages in Baloda block in which 1003 samples were identified as Inceptisol. The soil pH showed positive and significant correlation with water soluble, exchangeable and available-K. Organic C exhibited significant and positive correlation with water soluble and exchangeable-K and negative correlation with nonexchangeable K. Significant and positive correlations were observed among different soil K fraction. The order of dominance of different forms of soil potassium was non-exchangeable K > exchangeable K > available K > water-soluble K. Potassium fixation study reveals that K fixation decreased beyond 20 ppm K addition level in the soil under study.
