Abstract

This paper aimed to review about participatory rangeland management in Africa. Rangeland supports the food demand of the overgrowing human population. Furthermore, rangeland of Africa provides energy, medicine, animal forage, water and minerals which have a great role for pastoral communities to live there and the country they live. However, overgrazing, land use change, climate change, habitat degradation and fragmentation, excessive fire, and the development of infrastructure are becoming the major treats of range land biodiversity. Fortunately, the role of involving the pastoral communities’ has a great role to keep the rangeland of Africa productive and to use it sustainably without causing degradation. Nevertheless, appropriate managements should be introduced to overcome those problems. Likewise, due attention should be given to rangeland communities and they have to get training and new technologies that will help them sustain life. Therefore, the importance of this review is unquestionable and must be documented.
