Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is one of the known causes of erectile dysfunction but those suffering from it are not likely to openly come forward to seek medical help. Sildenafil is meant as a specific treatment for erectile dysfunction and like any other drug may be easily procured from across the counter without prescription of a physician and used by the needy patients without any consideration of the therapeutic doses resulting in toxic complications. Circumstances may lead to suicidal tendency in such cases due to failure of the desired functions and opting for self poisoning. If the victim dies, the pertinent medico legal situation which may arise is whether it is a natural death from complications of the disease or an unnatural one due to overdose of medication for erectile dysfunction and self poisoning so that the investigating authority can be guided accordingly. One such case is being discussed with observations that it may need further research by physicians and the forensic toxicologists.
