Abstract

A random autopsy study of 500 cases for age determination from sternum was conducted in the Department of Forensic Medicine, Government Medical College, Amritsar (Punjab). The study was carried out with a view to estimate the timing of fusion of Mesosternal segments and fusion of Xiphisternum and Manubrium with the body of sternum for age estimation. All the details regarding the individual were collected on pre-designed Proforma. The data thus collected was analyzed and compared with studies of earlier workers. This study establishes a reference population for age estimation from sternum in North West Population of Punjab, India.
