Abstract

Fixation of identity of a person is one of the most important aspects of crime investigation. Even in today's world where science is shaping the present and future of crime investigation with rapidly evolving techniques like DNA profiling, retinal scanning etc, the role of lesser known modalities cannot be underestimated. Forensic podiatry is a branch of forensic science that deals with the identification of a person based on study of footprints, shoeprints, gait pattern, medical records relating to feet and their association with the scene of crime. This association is very helpful in linking the guilty with the crime scene and more importantly exonerating an innocent person of a false charge.
