Abstract

The scorpion bite and its consequences are an important public health problem in several parts of the world. It is particularly common in Southern and coastal parts of India. It represents a major clinical entity in these parts of India causing significant mortality and morbidity. Scorpion evenomation can lead to various clinical manifestations like cardiotoxicity, respiratory dysfunction and neurotoxicity. Cerebrovascular effects are rare but lethal as they may mimic as hemiparesis. Despite advances in the treatment, the mortality remains high in rural areas on account of access to medical facilities.
