Abstract

The present Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act of 1971 in India has some flaws as witnessed by some legal decisions with unsatisfactory outcome and is now under scanner of the Health Ministry for the required amendments. But the proposed amendments need to be examined by all stakeholders including medical and forensic professionals, legal luminaries and academicians and above all the woman organizations of the country. Some of the amendments proposed by the Health Ministry as reported in the media are being discussed in the present article.
