Abstract

Road traffic injuries are a major, but neglected global health problem, requiring concerned efforts for effective and sustainable prevention. Of all the systems that people have to deal with on a daily basis, road transport is the most complex and most dangerous. The present study was undertaken on 106 victims of vehicular accidents, brought to JJM Medical College, and Chigateri general hospital, Davangere for medico-legal autopsy. The main purpose of our study was to find out the social and demographic profile of the victims involved in vehicular accidents and to provide epidemiological data, so the preventive measures can be undertaken. Our study shows that majority of the victims of road traffic accidents were mostly male of middle age group (31–40 years) and were pedestrians.
