Abstract

Till date most of the workers on stature estimation, have used the length of bones but not much of studies have been done for the estimation of stature from percutaneous measurements of hand length. Hence the study was taken to fill this lacuna. No two persons can possess the same hand and, based on this principle this study was carried out. There is significant correlation between stature and hand length. Therefore, hand length can be used in estimation of stature.Right hand length showed highest positive correlation with stature in males, females and both genders together. Simple and multiple linear regression equations have been derived from the collected data which can be appropriately used in determining stature, in cases of fragmented and mutilated remains. Stature can be successfully established from hand length. The correlation is highly significant when data is analyzed combining both sexes.
