Abstract

In forensic case work highly degraded biological samples are usually encountered in cases involving identification of putrefied unidentified dead bodies. As biological tissue gets putrefied in such cases, DNA becomes progressively more fragmented and its ability to gain an accurate DNA profile decreases progressively with reduced DNA quantity. In such cases a tissue or material which is comparatively more resistant to degradation from biological agents need to be selected in order to get accurate DNA profiles.

In the present study samples commonly obtained from putrefied unidentified dead bodies like bones, teeth & blood gauzes for identification of deceased were subjected to DNA analysis. A comparative evaluation of results from all the samples was done to know the best source using Quantifiler Human kit and further DNA profiling by Identifiler plus kits.
