Mushroom Poisoning-A Case Report

Mushroom poisoning refers to harmful effects of toxic substances present in the mushroom after ingestion.Mushroom poisoning cases are more frequently reported now a days due to increased awareness of people about the signs and symptoms after toxic mushroom ingestion. There are about 1200 species of mushrooms among those only 50 to 100 species are poisonous. In the month of April 2018, we did autopsy examination of 5 persons with the history of ingestion of mushroom from the same source and died subsequently. In this study we have tried to analysed the different organs affected by mushroom poison in the all 5 cases of mushroom poisoning autopsied in the mortuary of Department of Forensic Medicine, North Bengal Medical College, Siliguri. In all 5 cases liver was found to be enlarged with diffuse hemorrhagic spots present over the surface, subendocardial hemorrhages present over the heart and both kidneys were grossly oedematous and cortico-medullary differentiation were lost.
