Abstract

De-criminalization of sexual acts in the members of LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer) community by Supreme Court of India by its recent judgment has brought cheers to this section of society with an end to colonial - era ban on gay sex. The verdict has been welcomed all around and justified legally, medically, socially as well as politically in totality. It is seen as a victory of individual rights over bigotry, prejudice and arbitrariness. Freedom and rights need to be protected in accordance with Constitution. However, real change to happen, community understanding and engagement is crucial but definitely it is opening of the new era in the legal, medical and medicolegal corridors of the country.
