Introduction: Healthcare institutions have been growing in proportion to the increased affordability and awareness among public. Advances in techniques has helped dentist perform complex procedures like treatment of fractures, reconstruction surgeries, dentures, implants and bone grafting. To fulfill these dental requirements, dentists need to use variety of materials, consumables and implants. All these activities lead to generation of wastes including bio-medical waste (BMW) which is inevitable. Such healthcare waste has potential to cause injury and spread infection, if not handled and managed appropriately.
Material and Methods: A cross sectional study was performed at two dental colleges of Punjab which were selected by choice being easily accessible to the researchers. Questionnaire was specifically framed to assess the clarity on basic concepts behind the Biomedical Waste Management and Handling (BMWMH) rules. Questionnaire was distributed to final year students and interns of these dental colleges.
Results: Significant differences were found between young graduates of the two colleges. It can be concluded this dental curriculum is deficient in providing and ensuring due training and logical understanding to the young graduates.
