Abstract

Introduction:The present study is to determine the sex of partially fused hyoid bone by studying weight as a parameter.

Material & Methods:The material used in the present study includes 53 partially fused hyoid bones of adult male and female of 20–75 years of age group, obtained from the cadavers brought to mortuaries for post mortem. The bone was weighed with the help of chemical balance and the readings were tabulated and statistically calculated.

Result:It was noticed that all the measurements were greater in males than in females.

Our findings co-related well with earlier workers, from diverse population groups.

Conclusion:Weight of partially fused hyoid bone showed significant statistical result and can be considered along with other parameters for determination of sex of an unknown hyoid bone.
