Effective, safe and non-addictive, that is how the new sensation of over-the -counter drugs was build in the early days. Now these drugs are the focus of a fierce dispute. With each passing day, a new drug is added to the ever list of potent drugs of abuse and a new means for the angel of death to carry out his deeds of destruction is created. These newer drugs are abused not only for their euphoric effects but also as a means for reducing anxiety and limiting insomnia, anticonvulsant activity and sedation. In the present investigation, an attempt has been made to evaluate the utility of Derivative U.V. Spectrophotometry for the analysis of some common over the counter drugs namely Trifluoperazine, Cinnarizine, Cetrizine, Chlorpromazine, Alprazolam and Buspirone respectively.
