A retrospective study of cases done from 1999–2003 in the Department of Forensic Medicine, Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla to find out the trends in burns. Out of 954 medico legal postmortems performed in the department 109 (11.4%) were of burns. The commonest age groups of victims were in between 21–30 years. Males were 39% of the total number of casualties. Majority of burn cases occurred during summer season and were reported more from rural areas.
