Abstract

The Chemical Laboratory, Govt. of Punjab is the only govt. laboratory in the state of Punjab covering all districts where viscera for chemical analysis in poisoning or suspected cases of poisoning is received and analyzed. After screening and analysis of data in 1000 cases of deaths due to poisoning reported in the chemical laboratory, it was observed that organophosphorus and Aluminium Phosphide were the most common types poisons consumed in suicidal, homicidal and accidental deaths due poisoning. Males were three times more prone to poisoning compared to females, deaths due to poisoning were reported in all age groups, maximum deaths were reported in the prime of age i.e. 21 to 40 years and poisoning started at a younger age in females than males.
