Medico-legal cases are an integral part of medical practice that is frequently encountered by medical officers working in casualty. The present study was carried out to find out the frequency and pattern of medico-legal cases reporting at a tertiary care hospital and to highlight the vulnerable sex, age, residence and the cause.
In this study 100 cases registered in MLC record book of Rajindra Hospital, Patiala (a tertiary care hospital) in the year 2019 were included. Variables considered were age, sex, residence, type of injury, duration of hospital stay type of weapon and any associated injury.
In the present study, maximum number of cases was males (84%) as compared to females (16%). Majority of cases were from age group between 20-29 years (42 cases) followed by 30-39 years (20 cases). Maximum cases were from rural areas and injury was caused by blunt weapon in 96% cases. Fracture in limbs was present in only 17% cases but associated injuries were present in 36% cases. These can be prevented by proper education, awareness, uniform enforcement of law and order strictly.
