Abstract

Reconstructing the bone length from its fragments is important and many researchers tried to develop population specific formulae for the same. In our study, an attempt has been made to validate Steele and McKern method of reconstructing Maximum tibia bone length from its fragments in the selected study population.

The objective of the study is to estimate the maximum length of tibia from its fragments as suggested by Steele and McKern.

Steele and McKern segmental measurements were marked and measured on 100 dry completely ossified adult tibia bone on selected study population and regression equations developed.

Simple and multiple regression equation derived show strong correlation (R=0.968) with maximum tibia length and all equation are statistically significant. (p<0.000)

The validation study has proved that Steele and McKern method of reconstructing maximum tibia length is possible in the selected study population and can be utilized to derive population specific equation when replicated on a larger population.
