Sudden death in body builders has drastically increased in recent days mainly due to cardiac condition among androgenic-anabolic steroids (AASs) users. The use of anabolic steroids has been linked directly to cause impact on myocytes and endothelial cells, decreases intracellular Ca2+ levels, increases release of apoptogenic proteins, and increased collagen crosslinks between myocytes potential causing concentric left ventricular hypertrophy. This case discusses the cardiovascular effects of these drugs (AASs) in the possible long-term usage.
