Abstract

This study explores the significance of otologic findings in medico-legal autopsies, particularly examining the tympanic membrane and middle ear.

A total of 221 cases were evaluated at AIIMS Raipur to determine whether these findings correlate with causes of death.

Hemotympanum and middle ear haemorrhage were predominantly associated with asphyxial deaths, suggesting their potential role as indicators in such cases. Tympanic membrane perforations were notably observed in blast injuries, emphasizing the impact of explosive trauma on ear structures.

The study highlights the importance of incorporating otologic examinations in routine autopsies to enhance forensic investigations. Despite certain limitations, such as a small sample size and procedural challenges, the findings contribute valuable insights to the field of forensic pathology.
