Callus was initiated from petiole explants of Heracleum candicans on MS medium fortified with BAP and 2,4-D (0.5 mg l−1 each). Maximum shoot differentiation from callus occurred on MS medium containing 1 mg l−1 BAP and 0.2 mg l−1 NAA. The regenerated shoots were rooted on MS medium supplemented with 1 mg l−1 IBA. The rooted plants were transferred to the field after successful hardening in pots containing vermiculite. All regenerated plants were diploid with 2n=22 chromosomes in their root tip cells.
