Abstract

In present investigation, Pleurotus sajor-caju was cultivated on different agro-wastes viz., soybean straw, wheat straw, paddy straw, sawdust, sugarcane bagasse, banana leaves, bajara straw, green gram straw. The nutritional status of different substrates was evaluated before and after cultivation of Pleurotus sajor-caju. Again this spent mashroom substrate (SMS) was used for cultivation of Pleurotus sajor-caju in different proportions of straw and SMS. Among the different proportions (100%) soybean straw and (20:80) SMS + soybean straw showed significantly highest yield of fresh mushroom with highest biological efficiency, maximum stipe and pileus size, number of pinheads and matured fruiting bodies and minimum days required for vegetative and reproductive growth of Pleurotus sajor-caju. Studies concluded that spent mashroom substrate can be again used for cultivation of Pleurotus mashroom combination with soybean straw.
