Abstract

Green gram (Vigna radiata L.) is an important pulse crop cultivated widely in the arid and semiarid tropics, where its productivity is often constrained by seed and soil borne fungal diseases. Many of these pathogens reduce seed germination, impair seedling vigor or cause early plant mortality, yet documented reports on seed borne fungi of green gram in India remain limited. The present study was undertaken to isolate and identify seed borne fungal pathogens associated with green gram and to evaluate the efficacy of different fungicidal seed treatments against them. Field evaluation of seed treatments revealed significant differences in emergence percentage among the tested fungicides. All the treatments done with fungicides (seed treatment) significantly influence the field emergence, seed mortality, Shoot length, Root length and Dry matter over control. Treatment T1 i.e. Seed treatment with Penflufen+Trifloxystrobin @ 1ml/kg seed was found effective which shows 88.25 % field emergence, minimum seedling mortality of 14.25%, 15.25% and 17.25% at 15, 30, and 45 DAS, respectively and 23.25 cm, 31.25cm and 7.0 gm/plant Shoot length, Root length and Dry matter, respectively at 45 DAS in green gram followed by treatment T3 Seed treatment with Propiconazole 13.9% + Difenconazole 13.9% EC @ 1ml/kg seed. Where 89.00% field emergence, 18.75%, 21.75%, and 21.25% seedling mortality at 15, 30 and 45 DAS and 17.75cm, 29.5cm and 4.57gm /plant Shoot length, Root length and Dry matter, respectively at 45 DAS.
